Sign Language Society

We promote the use of British Sign Language (BSL), offering non-professional classes for students and associates of the University of Southampton. We run teaching sessions for those interested in learning the language throughout the academic year. We aim to be a point of contact and social events for people who know any amount of BSL.

Our society aims to give people exposure to British Sign Language with the intention of gaining an opportunity to learn a new language, and to better communicate with people who use BSL. We run weekly teaching sessions for Beginners BSL and Advanced Beginners BSL in Semester 1 and 2, where you get to learn a wide range of interesting vocabulary and BSL grammar.

Throughout the year we also run fun socials and events which we'd love you to be a part of! If you're interested, sign up to be member and follow us on our social media to keep up to date with information about the society.
